Affordable Online College Degree Programs Lead the Way

Online college degree programs are increasing by 21.5% each year according to the Sloan Survey of Online Learning in 2007. In the year of 2006-2007 3.5 million students enrolled in online or distance learning courses. Two of the reasons are flexibility and affordability.



Online courses are flexible. You can download lessons, lectures, and video or email you professor or fellow students 24/7. You can continue to work, raise a family, or even play and still do your assignments.



Online courses are affordable. Without the added costs of travel, room and board, books, or other expenses, distance learning online courses are usually more affordable than traditional college classes.



Most colleges and universities in the US offer at least some online courses. Some courses are entirely online. There are 100 schools that only offer online classes. According to the Sloan survey, 20% of students have taken at least one class online.



While online learning is not for everyone, online college education programs have brought education to many who would not otherwise attend a traditional school. For the student who is self-directed, motivated, and disciplined, online classes offer an alternative to a more expensive, structured, regimented traditional college education.

As more and more colleges and universities add online classes and entire programs, the consumer wins. Affordable, accredited college programs are increasing as students, employers, and colleges and universities recognize the value in online distance learning programs.
