Accountancy Degrees - A Great Profession

The question is how important are accounting degrees? Is this question even debatable today. The argument's essence is that accounting is one of the most prestigious courses offered in the world today. Critics of the degree have constantly argued that you do not need a degree in accounting in order to be an accountant. However, in today's world, financial language is one of the most important aspects of society. This is where the importance of accounting degrees comes in.

Financial language is becoming intertwined day in day out. With being so complex, there is a greater need for accountants who can unravel the accounting puzzle to the everyday person. Accounting degrees are the first step toward being "a pilot who can fly this large plane of accounting." Of course, it comes with its rewards. Accountants are some of the best paid people in the world. It is for this reason that the degree is quite competitive.

For an applicant to qualify for an accounting-degree, he or she should have a strong head that is up to the task of solving huge calculations. However, this doesn't mean that one should have knowledge of scientific formulas. But they should have knowledge of spreadsheets, statistics, and college level mathematics. In the recent past, there have been some accountants who have worked their way up from an Associate of Accounting to a Bachelor of Accounting. This is an effective way of earning accounting degrees.

Students who want to take up accounting degrees should also be very honest and have no prior convictions of any sort other than an occasional speeding fine. Accountants deal with money, history is littered with accountants who have ended up behind bars because of fraudulent practices and because accounting is a high paying job, the risks and temptations involved are high.

After graduating with an accounting degree, a normal company in the United States will pay an accountant between $26,000-$95,000. Of course, larger organizations will have better salaries and perks. Specialized accountants will get an even better pay rate. Other employment perks include healthcare and retirement benefits.

Before a student takes up accounting, he should be able to answer some questions. Studies show that students crave to be accountants because it is one of the top five most coveted careers in the world. It is imperative to note that joining any career without a passion for it may turn out to be counterproductive. Passion is the driving force that motivates us to produce desirable and sometimes unique results that baffle even our employers.

People who have pursued accounting degrees without a passion for accounting have ended up quitting or producing poor quality work that jeopardize their efforts. At the end of the day, they end up frustrated and find it hard to continue in their job. Therefore, it is vital to ask yourself why you are joining the accounting profession before you embark on earning any accounting degree.

However, if you have a passion for accounting, never hesitate to take up an accounting degree. In the near future, you may end up as CEO of a very large company.

Bachelor-accounting

A bachelor's degree in accounting is one of those degrees that have a clear purpose. Almost all students who obtain a bachelor's degree in accounting go to become accountants. That's why this particular degree is actually one of the most popular ones. Ironically, however, it is not one of those easier. So just what is involved in getting a degree in accountancy?

The old saying that it was better to be good with numbers to be that an accountant can no longer be true. Had better be an expert of numbers if you want to be a good accountant. If you want to be a great accountant, had better be able to think outside the box as well. Later.

A bachelor's degree in accounting is really prepare someone to become a CPA, or certified public accountant. This is very similar to someone wanting to go into law and have to pass the bar. If you want to be a CPA, you also have to take an exam and is not easy. Basically you have to know your tax laws inside and out, in addition to knowing every aspect of accounting from Payables and receivables and debt-equity ratio.

His first year as a senior accountant starts with two semesters of basic accounting. This is where you learn your Payables and receivables, as do a general ledger, recordings, etc. Are the bases of accounting for the most part, easy enough. But if you don't get through your first two semesters that you're not going to have a chance of what comes next. For the last two years through last year in college, you will learn the most advanced accounting principles. Probably the most important skills that you will be able to get through these years, besides being good with numbers, is logical. The reason is that in the accounts, everyone has to balance. One side must be equal to each other. This basically comes down to logically work through each entry.

Besides these advanced accounting courses, as if they weren't enough, you're also going to take other related courses such as mathematics, statistics, and probability in some schools, even calculating for at least a semester.

In addition to mathematics related courses, even going to have taken financial courses. This makes sense, given that accounting is not just numbers, but also about running a business. As well as courses in economics, finance and business management are not uncommon for a major firm to take.

Previously we talked about thinking outside the box. The reason that this is important is that a lot of accounting is figuring out creative ways to report income and expenses that make a company's tax liability as soon as possible, within the law.

Many people think the accountants have a tedious job, but the truth is, accountants must be some of the most creative minds in our world to deal with all the changing tax laws and keep a company from losing its shirt. Yes, getting a bachelor degree in accounting is not as easy as some might think.

Big Name State Universities - 5 Relatively Cheap Online Bachelor's Degrees

Let's face it. With so many options available on the internet, choosing an online bachelors degree program can be a daunting task. Try a little test. Type "online bachelors degree" into Google and glance at the results. Many "featured" programs on various degree websites usually include names like University of Phoenix, Walden University, Kaplan University, and Capella University.

Based on the test mentioned above, it should come as no surprise that these for-profit universities also rank in the top twenty of the largest online student bodies in the United States. According to the latest data from U.S. News & World Report, University of Phoenix served over 187,000 online students during the 2006-2007 school year. Significant online enrollment figures were also reported by Walden University (22,138), Kaplan University (22,000), and Capella University (13,726) for the same time frame.

But other non-traditional students take a slightly different approach to earning their degrees via online college courses. Instead of completing a 4-year degree through a for-profit online school, degree completion programs offered by well-known state universities are attracting considerable attention. To meet graduation requirements, many non-traditional students with little time for on-campus classes use inexpensive local community colleges as stepping stones to state universities. The reason: more public two-year colleges now cater to working students than in previous decades.

Three factors appear to be driving students back to long-established public and private universities, some of which are represented by a few big names. For starters, several institutions have adopted special tuition rates for distance learners that are not only less expensive than those for on-campus classes, but also considerably cheaper than the big for-profit universities. Comparable fees for in-state and out-of-state residents at these big schools are becoming more commonplace.

Next, to meet rising demand, more traditional universities are responding by increasing the variety of online classes and degree programs. For example, the Cincinnati Post recently reported that enrollment in online-only programs at the University of Cincinnati is up 257 percent over the past 4 years. In another recent article, the Tuscaloosa News cited enrollment figures from the University of West Alabama for the 2007 Fall semester. A staggering 47 percent, or almost one-half the entire student population at the Livingston, Alabama university take only classes held onlne.

Finally, the thought of having a resume tossed by corporate human resources staffers because the degree was earned through an online-only university may simply be too much for some students. In 2006, career information provider Vault Inc. surveyed hiring managers about how they view applicants with degrees that were earned online. A whopping 77% responded that they believe an online degree granted by an accredited institution holds more credibility than one from an internet-only school. As one unnamed HR professional confides, an online degree obtained from a well-established, traditional university stands a much greater chance of escaping the "correspondence school" stigma.

A related factor, branding, appears to heavily influence school choices as well. Listing a highly-respected, name brand college degree on a resume usually proves advantageous when competing for positions, especially in tight job markets, according to some career coaches. Similarly, nearby lesser known universities are also thought to carry considerable name recognition among prospective employers.

In other words, when choosing an online degree program, choose wisely. The opportunities to earn college degrees from highly-respected schools are many. Spend a little time and do some research. Yes, the larger online-only colleges and universities appear more often in Google searches. But it is highly unlikely that their exposure level is close to what the major state universities receive on those memorable autumn afternoons during college football season.

Below, you'll find five solid bachelor's degree completion programs that are fully capable of sprucing up many resumes with eye-catching credentials. Each degree is attainable through numerous options that can include CLEP exams and liberal college-credit transfer policies. Tuition rates, except where noted, apply to both in-state and out-of-state residents. For more information, please visit the respective university's Continuing Education or Extended Learning website to learn more.

Online Degrees - What Online Colleges Offer Financial Aid?

If you're thinking about or planning to take online classes in order to get your degree - whether it's a bachelor's degree, master's degree, MBA or doctorate, or just a certificate in a particular field of interest, there is money easily available if you qualify. Most if not all online colleges offer financial aid.

And all fields have online classes including, business, education, nursing, psychology, criminal justice, accounting, interior design, law, teaching, engineering, paralegal, computer science, social science, history, marketing, biology and much more.

Many people are taking advantage of federal money in order to take online classes whether it's affiliated through an on-campus college, university or school or an online school or college. They're now becoming more and more popular and accepted as people find out they can actually attend college online and get an online degree at their own pace part-time or full-time and complete their degrees in the time frame that's best for them.

Federal financial aid is actually easy to get. The aid comes in the form of not just loans or education loans but also in grants as well. When you apply for federal aid you will be awarded either a grant or loan or both. Loans are usually called Stafford loans.

There is another loan available through the federal government but tied into the school you plan to attend called the Perkins loan. You would apply for the Perkins loan after your approval and award from the federal government - it's a little bit complicated. The Perkins loan has lower interest.

The easiest way to learn more about whether you can get financial aid for the online college or on-campus college with online classes you want would be to contact the college, university or school and find out if they're accredited (all the well-known established brick and mortar schools are) and if they're affiliated with financial aid programs either through the government or otherwise.

Many of the online schools have their own payment plans as well without getting federal financial aid. But you want to check these schools out thoroughly and make sure they're accredited through the U. S. Department of Education and that's easy to check.

Many people are able to get scholarships not only through federal aid programs but through a lot of charitable organizations too. So make sure to find out about those through the school you plan to apply to.

Online classes, programs and courses are much more accepted today by employers; in fact many of them pay their employees to take online classes. If you're currently employed, check out whether your employer will pay part or all of your tuition or cost of classes, courses, etc. They may be willing to do that if your coursework is job-related.

In any event if you need money to take the best online classes, think - if there's a will there's a way and sometimes you can go free with scholarships or grants. Sometimes it means taking an extra step or two to find it but most students do. So the reality is that all online colleges offer financial aid or federal financial aid through loans, grants or scholarships. Get all the facts before you sign up and make sure your credits will transfer in to other schools for future.

Affordable Online College Degree Programs Lead the Way

Online college degree programs are increasing by 21.5% each year according to the Sloan Survey of Online Learning in 2007. In the year of 2006-2007 3.5 million students enrolled in online or distance learning courses. Two of the reasons are flexibility and affordability.

Online courses are flexible. You can download lessons, lectures, and video or email you professor or fellow students 24/7. You can continue to work, raise a family, or even play and still do your assignments.

Online courses are affordable. Without the added costs of travel, room and board, books, or other expenses, distance learning online courses are usually more affordable than traditional college classes.

Most colleges and universities in the US offer at least some online courses. Some courses are entirely online. There are 100 schools that only offer online classes. According to the Sloan survey, 20% of students have taken at least one class online.

While online learning is not for everyone, online college education programs have brought education to many who would not otherwise attend a traditional school. For the student who is self-directed, motivated, and disciplined, online classes offer an alternative to a more expensive, structured, regimented traditional college education.

Associates, bachelors, masters, and PhD programs are available from schools across the country. Many areas of study are available such as business, accounting, science, psychology, nursing, fire science, computer science, criminal justice, engineering, graphic design, health and medicine, marketing, social science, and web design.

As more and more colleges and universities add online classes and entire programs, the consumer wins. Affordable, accredited college programs are increasing as students, employers, and colleges and universities recognize the value in online distance learning programs.
