Students Seek Accounting Degree For Jobs In All Types Of Business

Today, students realize that one of the best ways to get a good job is to get a college degree. It's well documented that college graduates make significantly higher salaries over the course of their careers than those with only high school diplomas. Students who are interested in the business world and who like numbers may want to consider an accounting degree.



An accounting degree actually has a great deal of flexibility. While it's true that accountants largely deal with financial issues, they do have a great deal of variability in the types of businesses they enter for their careers. That's because virtually all types of business require the skills of accountants.



A student who graduates with this degree can choose between a few of types of accounting degrees. Students who want to get right to work in the field may want to start out with an associate degree in accounting. An associate degree will enable a graduate to work in the offices of many types of businesses as a junior accountant, bookkeeper, or as an accounting clerk.



One of the advantages of getting an associate degree in this field is that it gives a great deal of flexibility. An associate's can allow a graduate to get a job in a real-world accounting situation, gaining valuable work experience. This work experience can help the junior accountant decide if they want to move up and work towards a bachelor's degree in accounting.



If the student decides he likes working in this arena and wants to seek a higher degree, he or she may be able to get some help from their work. Many places of employment offer tuition assistance programs to their employees. A junior accountant who works to get a bachelor's degree in accounting may be able to work during the day and attend classes for their bachelor degree at night, or even online.



With a bachelor's degree in accounting, a person has many more career options. Most large accounting firms require at least a bachelor's degree for a job interview. Additionally, an accounting bachelor's degree qualifies a person for jobs that pay significantly higher salaries. The median annual salary for accountants who hold bachelor's degrees is $61,480.



Many choose to seek higher degrees or special certification. Several accounting degrees offer a five-year program that culminates in a master's degree and a certification as a public accountant. Accountants in the highest ten percent of earners had median annual salaries of $102,380.
